Memory

Hi guys,

I just upgraded my memory. I had 192 MB and I bought an additional 256. I'm running Windows XP and I have a 533 pentium III. I have 3 pci slots. I originally had 64 MB in 1 slot and then 128 MB in the other slot and I was finaly adding the 256MB in the 3rd slot but when I start my computer and it's going through the memory test...it's not recognizing the 256. I switched the memory card arounds so I had the 256 in slot one and the 128 in slot two and now when i run the memory test..it's not recognizing the 64 MB so I think it has to do with that third slot. Do you guy have any idea of what might be wrong? I DON'T think there is a physical problem with the slot. Thanks:confused:

I would tend to think that slot three is malfunctioning.

If the stick from slot 1 (64) doesn't work in slot three and the new 256 stick works in slot 1 and not slot 3, sounds like a bad slot
It probably does, but just make sure your motherboard can handle that much memory (I realize its not a lot). While you're at your mobo manufacturer's site, check to see if they have specific recommendations for memory placement. Generally, place the largest stick in the first and work your way down in size and up in slot #. I have to agree with the other post, and say that it is most likely a bad slot.
