Without making any changes to my computer at all, media player version 9 has stopped putting out any audio when playing audio cds. It will display the song titles, the lengths for each track, and the bar at the bottom will start moving as if it were playing, but there is no sound. No error messages pop up, it just seems as if its playing with the mute on, but the mute is off. Also, the patterns on the sreen don't move. If I put in a cd with songs in data form, they will play fine. Also songs on my hard drive will play with no problem. I tried ripping a song off an audio cd and playing it back off the hard drive, but it recorded it just like it sounded straight off the cd, no sound. I did a system restore, but that didn't help. I also did a scan disk on the hard drive, but it found no errors. I was actually thinking doing one of those would work, because the morning of the day I noticed media player was having this problem I had to shut off my computer after noticing it froze up. Media player was playing audio cds fine the day before. In case it matters, I am using Windows ME. Any suggestions?

The volume's up, it's not that. I was going to download media player and reinstall it, but I noticed that other media players won't open audio files from cds.

Just went through a somewhat similar prob with 98SE. It turned out I had a conflict with DDRAW.DLL versions. You cud do find file for ddraw.dll;. You shud get a couple of results. Rt click on each & "properties", "Version" & see results. I had different versions & ended up reinstalling directX to get them in sync(DDRWA is part of DirectX).
