Hi,

I am trying to find out which virus scan update I need. I currently have McAfee Virus Scan 3.1.6, which I understand is obsolete. I went to the McAfee website today to update, but I just got more confused because it doesn't appear that there's an update for my old virus scan. Someone recommended AVG, what do you think of this also? Please let me know about the McAfee update also.

Thank you.

Your version of McAfee is completely obsolete which means it can't be updated. It's also not protecting you against new viruses. You need to either upgrade it or replace it. I would not recommend upgrading to a new version of McAfee. Their software is messy and unreliable.

Thanks for letting me know. I tried downloading a free anti virus program called AVG Anti-Virus, but I kept getting messages saying that it couldn't be downloaded because it had been timed out. So, at this point, it doesn't seem like I have much of a choice and need to go with McAfee. Are there other virus programs you can recommend?

I'll check out Norton. By the way, I ran a free online virus scan of my system this morning and it said that I have no viruses. Not bad for someone with an obsolete virus scan! I won't push my luck, though, and will get some type of protection just the same.

Thank you.
