Map links in text messages

283 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  joflaherty1954
New Community First Responder. I receive text messages containing addresses which contain map links. The links should appear underlined and should be clickable/tapable. The link does not appear underlined on my S20. Other volunteers, who get the same messages, receive the links properly.
Any ideas what is set incorrectly on my phone?

It may be a preference, or maybe you do not have Google Maps as your default.

I came across this troubleshooting to see if this will help:

  1. Open the phone settings
  2. Click on Apps
  3. Click the 3 dot menu in upper left
  4. Click on Reset app preferences
On your S20, ensure that the, Google Maps or other maps linked to email messages and text messages, can be accessed by making sure the following setting is enabled. For the app you are using for texting, this needs to be done.
Open links in apps

Once done, you should be able to open links in apps. Please see the following linked web page on how to do this. It is to a Youtube video regarding this.

You should also check to see what your preferences are. Google Maps may not be your default on the phone. Check the preferences to see if this may be the reason why you cannot get to maps from text messages. Another thing to consider is the following. What is the difference between your phone's settings and those of other volunteers. There may be some setting difference causing the map link to not work. This could tell the cause of the problem's source. Note, phones of other volunteers may be not the same as some others in the same group. However, it should give you an idea of what is possibly different in your phone. Any incorrect settings could then be corrected to the correct ones.

If the problem persists, let us know and we can look into the settings in your S20. A screenshot of the settings of the phone would be needed for us to refer to. Should the instructions in the video work and the problem be resolved, let us know, too. Also, can links be accessed from webmail or emails? You should be able to go to linked websites from emails without any problem.

@NaderHussain I shortened the link so that the video is visible here.
