Hello all I am a newbie here and no tech at all. I screwed up cause I wanted to fix a problem with WUD I ended up doing some sh*t and now my puter is totally f'd up, in component services there is a sh*tload of errors, the icons are now all screwed up (like the globe for Norton Int. security shows up for the Roxio CD creator, and other good stuff (yeah rite) obviosly everything is corrupted and stuff is missing this is also after I followed a supposed solution to the Update prob.. it had me install cab files. I just want to get my puter back to where the kids can do their homework listen to their cd's and most of all run AOL (which will not acces the internet and even tells me "AOL has detected an errorwith your connection blah blah blah and restart my puter and sign on again (it does NOT help)
heres just a couple of the HUNDRED or so message in component services:
X Error 4/6/04 10:00:35 LoadPerf ( I cannot tell the rest cause the dang thing just changed RIGHT NOW..it's weird
well there wasLots of LoadPerf
or
error 4/7/04 10:46:45 COM+
it says " The run-time environment was unable to initialize for transactions required to support transactional components. Make sure that MS-DTC is running. {DtcGetTransactionManagerEx}: hr = 0x8004d01b}

Yeah I'm a dummy I have some weird curiosity and also beliefe that I can WORK on this puter ....Duhhh, well I can't and if I can just get some HONEST help i PROMISE to the Zeus of Computing that I will keep my gol darn hands out of the insides of this machine. you can e-mail me directly because I.E. is still working, but I don't know for how long, oh thats also how it started i was having probs getting the fan (graphic) to come up (i am running a n internet security and an anti virus, well I will leave you now and try to stop obsessing and compulsing in front of this thing and wait for some help from one of you good people. This might be happening if your COM+ service has been disabled. Try going into control panel/administrative tools/services and enabling and starting the com+ services if they are not started.

EDIT: if you cant find the services icon, go to start menu/run and type in "services.msc" without the quotes.

oh Acca thanks for the suggest however my sys restore was not working as far as it only had one restore point and that was the point where the puter screwed up.

Hehe....well glad that helped...

There are a couple possibilities as to how your stuff got messed up. Although the most likely would be a virus. (but again, if you had norton up to date, this seems unlikely too)

Here is a guide for setting up your xp services:

http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

Go along with this configuration, and go back to the services. Configure everything under the 'safe' column. That will keep most problems away.

Other than that, try updating virus scan and configuring it to scan every single file on your computer.

Hope that helps
