whenever i start my computer in about 10 seconds i get the following messege.

NT Authority/System
C:/windows/system32/services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819 and will shutdown in 60 seconds.

i have scanned my computer and no viruses were found. however, my comp starts ok when in safe mode.
could someone please help me. i have no idea what to do.

It sounds like you might have the blaster worm or some other big nasty. Here is something you can try:

Disable system restore:

ive done that for both the blasterworm and sasser worm but both of them could not be found inorder to repair

Hmmm...I did a search in google and found this on another forum:

The clue is in the message box you mentioned. I guess the complete message goes something like this:-

The system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.​

Then there is a message which states:-

Windows must now restart because the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly.​

If you have a look at this it will show the actual message box and list the procedure for removing it.

If you could post a screenshot of the message and maybe a HijackThis log, it might help as well.

Reboot into safe mode:

Create a directory on your hardrive to save HijackThis.exe. A directory like c:\hijackthis. If you do not do this, you will not be able to use the backup/restore features.

Download HijackThis from:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Save this file into the directory you made previously and then run the program named hijackthis.exe. When the program opens click on the Config button, then click on the Misc Tools button, and click on the Check for update online button. When it completes checking/applying updates press the back button.

Now click on the Scan button and when it is finished click on the Save Log button. A Notepad window will open with the contents of this log. Click on Edit then click on Select all. Then click on Edit and then Click on Copy.

Create a reply to this post here and right click in message area and select paste to paste the log into the post.

Judging by some of your entries you have an Acer TravelMate 600?

The only thing I said that maybe onimous in the HJT is:

However it does have a few listings for a Millenium Keyboard (and also ZipMagic and Norton, but it looks like you have neither.)

Look through this if you haven't done so already and follow the instructions. I think Service Pack 1 should have the fix, if not Service Pack 2 does. You did not specify if your Windows XP was already loaded with SP1 or SP2

Make sure you have utilities like ZoneAlarm and SpywareBlaster and the SP2 files on a CD before connecting to the internet, that way you are protected from any attacks.
