Mac Photos + Lacie External Hard Drive

Please HELP - I am a disaster when it comes to tech, and don't want to ruin anything.
I have a 2018 Macbook Pro with 8GB memory. I have a ton of pictures in my Photos library, so I got an External Hard Drive to keep them all in. I got a Lacie External Hard Drive, and recently migrated my Photos Library to the Lacie. I also configured settings so that I can only access my Photos Library when connected to the Lacie.

I recenly wanted to import all of the photos from my iPhone into the Photos Library... which I was thinking would work the same as always: Open the Photos App (with Lacie plugged in) and plug in iPhone... and it will sync/import.

I get to the "Import" part... and then it stops. Like the import progress bar does NOT move. I let it sit for 8+ hours and nothing happened. No photos imported.

I tried just 1 photo import, to see if it was the volume slowing it down. To no avail.
I tried putting the photos on my desktop and then importing them to the Photos Library from my desktop, and it did the same thing.

I have no idea what to try, and I feel so dumb.
Please help me troubleshoot!

If your Mac and Iphone has an icloud, you can see your pictures there too. Use your computer and log in to your icloud account.
Try pointing photos back to the mac
When you pointed it to the Lacie
you need to reverse that back to the mac then back to the lacie again when finished

My only worry is that my mac doesn't have enough storage to move Photos back to the mac :/
That may be my last resort... thank you so much!
You do not have to move the current ones on the Lacie back to the mac.
Point the program back to the mac
Put new photos on mac
Then move new photos from mac to Lacie

Thank you!! It worked!
Another question... do you know how to combine iPhoto libraries? I am unable to import one library into the other on the Lacie. I'd like to just have one library of photos :/
What version of os are you using
E.g Lion, Big sur etc

Currently on Ventura 13.0.1 - but when I first got the Lacie, I was using a lower-level OS, and that's when I moved my iPhoto library... so I'm wondering if that has something to do with the fact that I can't merge the two iPhoto libraries? Since they are technically different versions of OS? Just a guess with my limited understanding lol

Do you know which one

Monterey 12.1 in Dec 2021, and Mojave right before that.
If you have the files on the lacie in a library you should be able to import the library into photos.
Unplug the lacie after the import
System 13 gives the option to find and remove duplicates.

If you need to backup your photos incase of the mac drive dying.
You are better to off to run time machine and backup the whole system.
If the drive dies.
You replace it and restore with time machine.
