In recently aquired a reconditioned PC (i am already regretting this but it was cheap) and i cannot get the printer to work. The printer is installed and i can see it in the printer folder but the LPT1 port does not appear in device manager.
I have opened up the tower and the port seems to be connected but i'm not really sure what to look for.
Is it possible the LPT1 connection to the Motherboard it stuffed? it appears to be soldered so can i fix this or do i need to take it to a shop?
My other thought is that it is the printer that is the problem. I can print a test page direct from the printer.
I have followed the MSHelp on Printers and this wasn't very useful.

Does anyone have any suggestions apart from not to buy a reconditioned PC?

Thanks

Thanks Dave, you were spot on!
I checked the Bios and found the onboard Parallel Port was showing as disabled.
I changed this and the printer now seems to work fine.
There is one other thing you could help with though if you don't mind.
When i activated the Parallel Port there were a number of different options i could have chosen.
there was:
378/IRQ7
278/IRQ5
3BC/IRQ7
I selected 378/IRQ7
Then in parallel Port Mode i chose ECP+EEP as you suggested
then in ECP Mode Use DMA there is the option of 3 or 1 - I chose 3.

Have i selected the right settings?
As i said the printer seems to be working OK so i presume the settings are fine?

Once again thanks for the advice
