I turned my computer on and discovered that my display settings had been altered. The screen resolution is stuck at 800X600 and the color is stuck at Lowest 4-bit. I am unable to change the resolution or the color (there isn't even any other color options!). Does anyone know just what happened?

Have you installed any software or hardware lately? You may have a corrupt driver; requiring a reinstall of the driver. I would also do a scan with spybot and a good AV program.

No, I came to the screen on startup that asked if I wanted to run Windows Normally, in Safe Mode, or with the Last Workable Settings (or something like that), and I chose the Last Workable Settings. I ended up with this. I ended up having to reinstall my printer a few days ago. Which driver do I reinstall and how?

It would be your display driver. You will need to know the brand of video card that is installed. You may need to open the case and look at the card if you do not know what model you have.

If you have had other problems lately, I would download and run the hard disk mgf's utility for checking your drive. There is no sense in installing a driver if the disk is failing.

I believe that is my video card. It says its working properly, but I went iunto advanced and it said it wasn't digitally signed (shrug). Where do I go from here?

Yeah, I had this problem when I tried using one of those windows supplied “Generic” video drivers. If you get a message similar to “The settings for your display driver are incompatible/ have failed/ etc” then you need to find out what card you have and get it form the companies web site. If your lucky, you can go to the Windows Update site ( http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com ) and the latest driver. It will be there under “Driver Updates” section. Also like crj said if you been have other major problems check your disk and make sure its not a more serous problem.

Here is a link to maxtor's utility. Most of the time you can run it on other makes of hd as well. If you just want to try reinstalling the video driver, you will need to know what card is in the system. Once you know what video card you have, you can download the driver for it.

If you have Direct X, open the Diag and under Video it will tell you your card and then you can go from there. Its usually in the program file folder or somewhere In the WINDOWS directory for XP…

Here is a link to nvidia site for driver download. You just put in what os you have and then download the driver. If you are running win xp or win2k both of those os have a driver for the tnt cards. You can also try windows update as posted.
