lose sound in XP

Hi Everyone,

I recently install XP on a clean drive. I have a Compaq presario 5000 series (5BW177). Now initially the sound is working, but eventually I lose the icon on the taskbar and if I look up the device (ESS Allegro PCI audio WDM) it states that the device cannot start. I have found no conflicts or resource sharing issues and I have re-installed the latest drivers and still have the same problem.

Anyone have any suggestions??????

Have you tried any of these drivers?

I had a similar problem a while back and I found this microsoft knowledgebase article (link below). It sounds like this will fix it for you. Good luck
