Logitech and Creative web cams - slow video capture

High speed USB port 2.0
2002 Dell Dimension 8200
1993 Mhz processor
I have tried both cams and the video is terribly slow, unlike some videos I have seen that are almost real time. I even tried a faster newer computer and it was the same. Any suggestions? Thanks.
