I don't claim to be a computer wizard. Maybe that's why I'm in the situation I'm in. But I'm sure one of you can help me...
After downloading and running a number of programs like Adaware, spybot search and a couple others...I now have an issue tht I never had before. I have Windows XP Pro. I have 2 user accounts set up. My main user account seems to be working fine. After I enter my password for the second user account, the screen states the normal...loading your personal settings. After my desktop starts to appear, it stops after the wallpaper is loaded. No icons, no start menu, nothing. It does not allow me to right click. I can see my mouse. That's it.
I ran Norton antivirus and it says the computer is clean. When I try to do a system restore, it says restore failed.
Any ideas?

Thanks.

It sounds like a corrupt user profile. You would be wise to backup the data from the administrator profile if you can, then delete the user and recreate.

A word of warning. On XP based systems, any and all user data stored in the "Documents and Settings" areas for that user can be lost when a profile gets corrupt.

Unless you really need the security it provides for multi-user accounts to be hidden from each other, choose to store the user data elsewhere, in a directore outside the Documents and Settings/My Documents area..

Here's what I can tell you..
I already have this user data backed up on an external hard drive. It appears that all of the data on both the C and the G (backup) drive are intact. I can still open all of the Word and Excel documents. I'm not sure if this is what you meant by the data in the user profile or not.
Also...I tried creating a new user account and called it test. When I logged in to this account I got the same unfortunate result. I got a screen with nothing but wallpaper showing and I had to reboot to get out.
To add a new twist to this...when I went to bed last night, I logged our of my user account, when I got up this morning and tried to "wake" the computer, all I got was a blank screen. I had to reboot again to get in to my account. Please let me know if you still think this is the same issue. If you have some step by step details on how to prceed...I would appreciate it.
