loading hpscanjet 2300C scanner

Have tried to install hp 2300C scanner and everything will look okay untill I try to use and then get error message "Error occured communicating with scanning device. Icon shows up on my desktop and in My Computer under scanners. This is a USB hook-up. Any simple suggestions, I'm new at this so need something easy. Thanks

The best way to proceed with scanner usb connection problems is to work through HP's USB setup troubleshooter at this Link

If you are using WinXP there is a patch/update at the HP website for this scanner. It will otherwise not work under XP. You have to install this before connecting the scanner. If you have already connected the scanner, just uninstall the software, then turn the computer of and disconnect the scanner. THen install the software and the patch/update before connecting the scanner.
