i'm no expert i got a 1633s a few weeks ago. try these basic steps. do a clean install of nero, using the clean up tools from the nero website. then reinstall nero. download the lastest updates and install them eg i found nero vision 2 a pain but version 3 works fine. there have been various updates released in the past week. finally install the latest firmware for your writer from the liteon website. forget lite-on's recommended media i found that my lite-on writer doesnt like ritek based discs and most suppliers have told me to avoid ritek.
i have had problems converting avi files and burning direct to dvd-r. nero fails to finalise the disc. to solve this i burn to a mitsubishi 2x dvd-rw and then copy this resultant dvd to a dvd-r, takes about 25 minutes extra time but no coasters. i found verbatim media works best. if you are in the uk you could try a trial pack of 12 discs from........
