Linux Dummy

Ok this is going to sound really dumb but I while back ago I had an issue installing The Nvidia Driver in Suse 8.5 .... I found an old thread that gave step by step instructions on how to do it starting with the shutting down the X server all the way threw well I cant find it now and really kinda need it. So if some one could point me in the right direction or if they could explain to me what to do I would be very gratefull. I have a copy of the Nvidia instructions but unfortunetly when I read them I am pretty sure I look like a monkey starring at a math problem ....
