Links Bar drop down tab not readable

2039 Views 20 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  sponsor
Hi!

Have a weird problem with my links bar in IE. Have a great number of urls saved for handy reference and when I click on the drop down tab & scroll everything turns dark blue with black lettering which is impossible to read. When I get halfway down the urls show normal (black lettering on beige background and turn dark blue with white lettering as you scroll over them.

Can anyone tell me what would cause this & how I can correct it?

My OS is Windows ME - Dimension 4100 - Internet Explorer 6.

Thanks.

Have previously tried to repair IE but this did not correct the problem. Also have used spybot on a regular basis. This problem has been with me for a couple of months & with my limited computer know how don't know where to turn next. Doesn't seem to bother anything on my pc but sure is a pain to read. I have so much junk on this thing maybe it is just protesting. Downloaded hijackthis and save log file which I hope I get to you OK.

Hi:

Don't know what I should check & fix - HPZSTATX.EXE runs when I have my printer on which is not very often. Printer was on when I did the scan. On or off it doesn't make any difference with my problem.

Ran the scan again and HPZSTATX.EXE is not there. Sorry for being such a dummy but really don't know what to fix.

Thanks again - ran Hijackthis again and checked the 15 items you listed - sorry to say my problem is still with me.

Appreciate your time & help.
I have "Use Window Colors"
Well I did a cleanup, (I have always done this on a regular basis)
& thank you Sponsor for the Ace Utility Link. I then ran hijackthis again and fixed 3 of the items Cybertec listed (three of them I had already eliminated last night). The other three I think are OK.
One under trusted zone has been there long before this problem started and the other two are my High Speed ISP (New Brunswick Telephone).
Then I got an error message "Regsvr32 has caused an error (in unknown), then the blue screen & everything went into deep freeze. Did an illegal shutdown & my Norton Antivirus went bonkers. Re-booted and finally got everything going & did a virus scan - everything OK there.
My links dropdown is still turning Navy Blue.
I don't understand it because everything else is normal. I can scroll my favorites & history with no problems. Just wondering if I have too much in the links & should delete them all. The blue is gradually creaping further & further down when I scroll.
I really appreciate all you advice & sorry to be such a pain.

OK - here I am again. Tried to repair IE again - got the following:
"IE 6 cannot be repaired due to the following errors. Pls run setup again to reinstall all components."

Clicked on details and got the following:

Version 8.0.7820.0 of file MSXML3.Dll Exists)
Version 8.0.7820.0 of file MSXML3A.DLL Exists)
Version 8.0.7820.0 of file MSXML3R.DLL Exists) But the version needs to be greater than 8.0.7916.0

Re-installed IE6 SP1 - Repair option now works.

Links scroll drop-down still Dark Blue.
About 2 months ago - don't know of anything I was doing at the time. I just scrolled down the links & they suddenly turned blue.
Guess I will just have to live with it. May try deleting them all & see if it comes back to normal. Have had a few problems since I updated IE from 5.5 to 6 - tried to revert back but the option wasn't there for me. Lost a lot of options at that time in Microsoft works that I have not been able to get back. Appreciate your help & advice.
OK Thanks. Will give that a try.
Update - Saved my favorite links to disk & then deleted everything in links folder. I am gradually adding them back to my links and, so far everything is working as it should. Have no idea what caused this but I,m so grateful it is corrected. Thanks for all your help.
