Hi, hope someone helps! I have a new Acer laptop and I also have a desktop computer that has wireless cardbus adapter connected to it and was working fine. When I tried to connect to the Internet using my laptop through wireless zero, I can see my network but when I type my encryption and then confirm it, it automatically connects and then will acquire a network but after that it will tells me limited or no connectivity. Can you please give me the fix for this? Thank you so much!!!

Let's back up a step.

What is the make/model of the wireless router? Does the laptop work properly with no encryption? Have you updated the firmware on the router to the latest version? Have you updated the wireless drivers on the Acer to the latest version?

I’m using DI-624 router and I tried to disable the encryption and it works fine, I also went to the support website of D-link to download the latest firmaware and then I upgrade it. I also tried to update the driver of my laptop. I also changed some of the settings on my router such as the channel, the network name, as well as the security key but still nothing happen. I tried to assign an IP address on the wireless connection to check if I can browse a website, but it still told me that I have limited or no connectivity. Is there any thing I can do to get my laptop works with my router?

OK, so you have an encryption issue. What are you using WEP or WPA? If both ends support it, I'd use WPA, it's a much better option. If not, you can still use WEP. When you setup the keys, use ONLY the hex option, do not use the passcode. WEP passcodes are generated differently by some brands of WiFi equipment.

I'm using WEP 64 bit HEX, I tried to use a passphase before through WPA but I cannot still connect. I tried to connect to my friend’s network which is also using a WEP and I can browse a website after. I just wondering that my other computer can access the Internet, but why can't the laptop?

Let's recap:

If you disable encryption, you can connect with your laptop.

If you enable WEP encryption using HEX keys only, you can't connect.

If you enable WEP encryption on a friend's computer you can connect.

If you enable WPA encryption you can't connect.

Is that correct?

One question? Does the Acer laptop have a utility other than WZC that manages the wireless connection? If you have two wireless clients running, that can create issues.

How can I know if there's any other utility that runs through my laptop because I can see WZC and I'm not sure if there's one? Can you please tell me how can I check it? Thanks!

There should be a process running, or a tray icon for the additional client, if present.

Have you tried this computer at your friend's house using WEP encryption?
