Lenovo ThinkPad T470p Stuck on Logo Screen and Can't Access BIOS Settings

Hey everyone,

I'm having a problem with my Lenovo ThinkPad T470p, and I could really use your help. Whenever I turn on my laptop, it gets stuck on the Lenovo logo screen and won't go any further. I've tried pressing different keys to access the BIOS settings, but nothing happens.

What's strange is that removing the CMOS battery temporarily fixes the issue. After doing that, the laptop can reboot normally. However, if I leave it turned off for a few hours and then try to start it again, it gets stuck on the logo screen once more.

I've already tried a few things to fix the problem, but nothing has worked so far:

1. I removed the SSD to see if there was an issue with the storage, but that didn't solve the problem.
2. I also took out the RAM to check if it was causing the trouble, but no luck there either.
3. I updated the BIOS to different versions, hoping it would help, but the issue persists.
4. I played around with the BIOS settings and even reset them, but that didn't make a difference either.

I'm really stuck and not sure what else to try. It's frustrating because I can't use my laptop properly, and it's affecting my work. If any of you have experienced this problem before or have any ideas on how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate your advice.

I'm open to any suggestions you might have, so please share your thoughts.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any assistance you can provide!

It has the possible indications of a dead - low voltage CMOS battery
If it is the CR2032 type the coin cell either replace it with a new one or if you have a multimeter check the voltage - should be 3v

EDIT
It is I think the prewired type - you can still check voltage with a mutimeter but replacement is probably the best course of action

Is time and date correct in BIOS settings

NO seconds do not matter

The question however was
WAS the time and date correct

If you are lucky it will be a FLAT cmos BATTERY
It could however be a failure of a component on the system board

This can cause corruption of the BIOS even with a good cmos battery
By taking out the CMOS battery you temporarily reset BIOS and it boots until you shut down and then the problem occurs again

Considering you have made changes to the BIOS, I would concur that the Coin Cell Battery is most likely the cause of the issue. The bad(ish) news is that it is one that is a CR2032 coin battery with a plug that connects to the board.

Replacements appear to be in the $15-20 USD range however they may be from 3rd vendors that may or may not be reputable. Due to the age of the model (5 years old) you may not be able to find one from Lenovo directly

I would recommend replacing the coin battery first. The part numbers for the coin battery are 02K7078 and 04W1642 so if you search for lenovo (pn) for your area then hopefully you can find one.
