I have a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop with a AMD Athlon processor that recently died. The symptoms are: press power button, leds on power board light up and CPU fan comes on for about 2-3 seconds, then it powers down and immediately back up again. This will occur 3-5 times, then it powers down and stays down until I press the power button again. It does not appear to enter POST, there are no beeps, and there is no disk or screen activity. I tried attaching an external monitor, same results.

I have replaced the motherboard, CPU, and power board with supposedly good ones....same result.

1. Any ideas what could be going on?
2. When I bench tested the motherboard, out of the case, the only attachments were the CPU, fan/heatsink, power board and power supply. Is anything else required for a laptop bench test?

Any help appreciated. Thanks. Ron
