Honestly I would not recommend an Acer laptop, I deal with them quite often and they have many issues from terrible battery life, to poor assembly, sound issues, hinges cracking, poor performance, failing to power on, light leaking around the based of the LCD's, and more.

I'd strongly suggest looking at a Dell or HP laptop.

Personally if given the choice between a single core or dual core I'd go with the dual core processor.

Yes, I would imagine that the dual core would be best. due to it being like a 3.2GHz processor - I was thinking on getting a Acer but after these comments I am in two minds... but don't people say that DELL are poor quality too ?

The two cores don't add up to sum of the two, but Windows and various programs can balance the load between the processors to improve performance.

Dell laptops aren't poor quality, if you go cheap then you get what you pay for and thats where many people run into problems with Dell systems. To be cheap they need to use reduce components and use lower cost components. Dell does get high consumer ratings even with all their problems.

I have to disagree with what has been said about Acer. I bought an Acer laptop a while back and was so impressed with it, my roommate later bought one. Both of us have had nothing but super results from them. Wonderful battery life (5+hours on centrino processors), beautiful displays, relative weight, strong wifi.... only thing i could improve upon is sound quality, but that is typical of laptops.

I have always heard and experienced poor quality in hp/compaq and dell.... i guess it just goes to show it comes down to personal experiences... but if you compare the look/feel of an acer to that of a compaq... the compaq seems like a cheap, heavy toy

Unless you're partial to Acer, I'd keep shopping.

I'm certain you can get a comparably equipped (or slightly better) unit from other makers for $75 - $125 less.

Well two Acer's don't equate to the hundred or so that I've sold and had complaints and repairs for most.

Dual Processors is two seperate processors. Dual Core is two cores on one processor die. Dual core is the way to go at the moment, much cheaper.

Do you wonder why they sell for so little?

In most cases the only difference is that Windows Media Center is installed on the laptop instead of Windows XP Home. It has some extra features that allow the laptop to be used in a home entertainment environment. Some of these systems include a remote control or a Video capture card, but many don't come with these but are available options.
