Laptop Problem

Hello there,
I am having problems when booting up my Laptop. I have a NEC Versa 4080H. It is an older laptop bu tin perfect condition that is why I would like to get it runnign again. Here is the problem. I get at the first boot up:
-------------------------------------------------------
error:
Save to disk no found
Save to disk feature is disabled
Run phdisk, create to create file
-------------------------------------------------------
and then it gives me an option to startup as:
normal
safe mode etc. - Now it let's me Startup in this mode.

But when I try to load as "normal" the following appears:

Cannot find a device file that my needed to setup to run Windows or Windows Apllications.

The Windows registry or System.ini file refers to this device , but the device file no longer exists.

If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using its uninstall or setup program.

If you still want to use the application associated with this device file try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.

vnetsup.vxd

If someone can give me instructions on how to fix this it would be much appreciated.

thanks,
mareena

For the PHDISK error message: Boot up and enter setup (CMOS) ..normaly done by pressing F2, ctrl+alt+del.. (just look for the option to enter setup by pressingxx on the screen when you first turn on the power)
Then look for any settings which refer to "suspend to disk"... turn this off if possible (someone with more knowledge about this feature might tell you differently, but you can always re-enable it)
This might just fix the phdisk problem...if not, we'll try summat else.

As for the VSERVER error... now THAT I know! follow the steps in
this article and at lease THAT problem should be fixed!
Hello there,
I tried turned the suspend to disk to off, but I am still getting the same message. What can do from this stand point. I read the article and am a bit confused. Is there any way someone can explain what to do in simplier terms.

Can I just try to reformat the hard drive?

marina
Hi Mareena,

Here are a couple of links that you might want to check out (they might be relevent to your problem). It sounds like it could have something to do with your Power Management features. According to NEC, you get an error at boot-up if the BIOS cannot find a file on your hard drive called SAVE2DSK.BIN. You may have to replace that file.

I hope this helps you. .:)

P.S- If you need, let me know what version of Windows you're using, and I can e-mail you a copy of VNETSUP.VXD, that you can copy into your c:\windows\system folder.
Hello there,
I will try the links. Thanks.

i am running Windows 98

My apologies... I misread your error post about the ventsup.vxd.. must have had the vserver error message on my mind at the time...sorry!

Go here for info about the vnetsup.vxd
Hello there,
I was able to fix the ventsup. vxd error at boot up. But I am still getting the following error:

error:
Save to disk no found
Save to disk feature is disabled
Run phdisk, create to create file

I went into the BIOS and changed the SUSPEND to save to disk but I am having trouble.

Is there any easy way to correct this, I will read the articles and work form there.

thanks,
marina
