if you read your laptop manual their may be a jumper inside the computer you have to disable

Definitely do not open your laptop case. That won't solve your problem and could cause you a whole bunch more. You can disable it using software. Look in the Control Panel for an option. It might be under Mouse or Compaq Utilities or something similar. You could also look on Compaq's web site for a special utility that might help.
