Laptop can't connect to the internet through hotspot

Hi, I've just discovered this problem with my laptop connection (windows 8), and i really need help with it. A few months ago i started hacking into the dns server to speed up my connections on public networks, and it caused no problems for me. I don't have a wifi connection at home, so if i really need to use it i would just connect to my mobile hotspot. But just now i tried to connect it and it didn't work. It says that it's connected, but when i open the browser it says check proxy address or something like that and doesn't load. I've tried changing the dns address to the automatic settings, but it still doesn't work. Please help me. Thank you.
