Keys Stay Active Even After I've Let Go

Hello! This is my first time using this site, so bear with me.

Whenever I play a game on my new laptop, purchased 3-4 months ago, I run into a rather annoying issue. Every game I play uses WASD to move, so it really becomes an issue when I need to go in a certain direction but my character keeps moving in a different direction I pressed recently. For example, if I needed to dodge an attack or make an escape, I would press A or D to sidestep. When I try to go in a different direction, say W or S, I will move diagonally. This only stops when I press the corresponding directional key (A for right, etc.) twice.

Another issue I just experienced today when playing GTAV makes it difficult or nearly impossible to drive. Whenever I turn left or right, the vehicle will keep turning in that direction a whopping 1 or even 2 seconds after I've let go. When I try to slow down, there is a similar delay.

I don't understand why either of these issues are happening. I've checked all my keyboard related settings and even game settings, but nothing is out of order. Sticky Keys and the like are off, and the game process being run at a higher priority in my Task Manager does nothing.

I really hope someone can help... I absolutely love playing games, and this makes it very difficult for me to enjoy.
