I am being told to install Virtual Machine by certain programs (they wont load)

When going to the SUN site and starting the download, all goes well until the last minutem, when I receive error:

Java update fails to apply changes to your system Java Runtime

Then error 1722 - There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.

Can anyone help?

HI,
Java Virtual machine seemed to have downloaded all ok. I have installed a software program called Expressit, and when trying to launch error:
Cant launch executable, could not find a suitable java virtual machine on your system, see http:/java.sun.com to download one.
Try re-installing java VM or change to Java VM used by the application.

At work at present, can trys Bobs suggestion. So its a case of uninstalling the software, and then? and the VM I have installed?? how can I uninstall this??

Sun Java can be uninstalled from Add/Remove Programs.

This uninstaller from Microsoft will remove the following versions of the JVM:
Build 3810
Build 3809
Build 3805
Build 3802

http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/c/3/7c3962e0-f2fe-4c11-a741-8c883a8e1525/unmsjvm.exe

It should be noted that most people have the best luck by installing both Sun's and Microsoft's Java. Then, those sites that require one or the other are still accessible.

The Java applet placed in the Control Panel by Sun's and the Internet Options both allow you to make Sun Java the default. When disabled, Microsoft's becomes the default, so both are then available.

EDIT:
Microsoft's download link for the uninstaller seems to be down. There is no real reason why it ever needs to be uninstalled, but here are manual directions in the meantime:

Right then...
Microsoft VM and Java are now uninstalled (all clean)
When trying to remove the program called Expressit receive the same error:
**Cant launch executable, could not find a suitable java virtual machine on your system, see http:/java.sun.com to download one.**
Try re-installing java VM or change to Java VM used by the application.

What to you recomend I should try next, as initially Java failed to install, and VM did not do the trick?

Shall I go for :http://www.onecomputerguy.com/softw...javx86_3805.exe

As it happens, I managed to use my "System Works" removal facility to get rid of the program, so now all clean. (I hope). Have PC at work, but no internet connection, will wait until at home tonight, to try again. I await any more help/advice

Glad to hear it. You may need both Java's if you find a web page that asks for the other.

PS. Microsoft took down the download of the VM uninstaller for reasons unexplained.

I found a copy of Microsoft's Java VM uninstaller on this ftp site:

http://bilbo.czela.net/ftp/unmsjvm.exe

when it works.
