java.exe - Application Error

3747 Views 13 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Angziety
When starting any executable file that requires java, I get the error "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005)". However, if I were to disable AVG they open with no problem at all. I figured my AVG was out of date, I updated it and problem persists. I updated java, problem persists.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and Welcome.
Download Screen317's Security Check from > Here < or > Here < and save it to your Desktop.
Close unneeded programs prior to running the check ...
  • Right click Security Check Icon, and select Run As Administrator
  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should soon open automatically called checkup.txt
Please copy and paste the contents of that document in your next reply.
Note : If your Antivirus warns you, please ignore that as this is not unusual with many tools.

Thank You.

Removing any windows update without 100% knowing what is wrong is more than foolish, it is extremely dangerous

I have deleted the possibly incorrect advice
That error is an access violation error and if it only happens with AVG installed and active, it is because AVG is intercepting all requests to the java file and probably adding a flag to the file saying it has been checked

I don't use AVG, but I am guessing it has something to do with AVG being set to check on secure or HTTPS connections. I see all sorts of errors with loads of antivirus programs that use HTTPS (SSL ) checking and it is normally recommended to disable ssl checking with any antivirus
There is an alternative download location for screencheck http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/securitycheck/
Spyware info forum has had some difficulties recently and there are lots of reports of missing files and connection problems.
Thanks,

I tried a restore point, to which caused more problems... So I undid the restore, and the problems followed. I am now unable to open google chrome. When I right click anything except for folders on the desktop explorer crashes. I went through shellexview, and disabled things one by one. It still crashed, after disabling all then re-enabling one at a time, it fixed it. However, when I restart it goes back to crashing on right click, to which I do the same process and it works.

Here is the results of the securitycheck:

first turn UAC on to at least middle postion and preferably to high level

second uninstall AVG and see if you still get crashes on everything
3rd update flash player
4th do a defrag 17% fragmentation is quite high and could be contributing to the problems
then let us know how it is
It's an SSD so I'm not going to defrag. I've already done the rest. After I posted the results. Still the same.

EDIT:
Sorry, the only thing that has changed was the crashing.
OK If it is an SSD don't defrag
lets see if this shows anything
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to download and run the 64 bit version

  • Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please copy and paste log back here.
  • The first time the tool is run it generates another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.
Ran the scan and uploaded the text files.

nothing obvious there
all I can suspect is one of the updates from windows yesterday is causing this, but I haven't heard of any other instances yet.
All the errors listed in the log are to do with memory access, that applies to chrome and Java
I still think it is something to do with AVG
You need to uninstall AVG completely
reboot & see how it is then
If it all works, then it could be AVG corrupted and a reinstall of AVG might solve it. If it still happens with AVG removed then we need to investigate a lot further

Only 1 other point to note. You appear to have a non legal or pirated version of some adobe software on that computer. We can tell this by the hosts file entries blocking adobe updates.
I'll go ahead an uninstall AVG and see what happens then. As for the non-legal or pirated version of an adobe software, I may have an idea as to what program it may be.

EDIT:
Two things - Fixed the chrome issue by re-installing. Removed adobe from my host file and found/removed the bad product (Last time I'm letting my cousin install things).

Do you think the adobe product could have been causing this issue?
Your last fix worked. Thank you so much for your help :D
