Would it be possible to use an HDMI cable I got with my ps3 to connect my computer tower to my tv straight out of the box? To my knowledge, the HDMI cable is just a standard one and not actually specific to the ps3. The tv does support the HDMI cable, and I have speakers for sound output. The computers OS is Windows 10.

Hi RedWolf1, and welcome to TSG.

As far as I can determine, the PS3 does not come with an HDMI cable in the box. It does have a standard HDMI port. If your computer has an HDMI output, then you should be able to use the HDMI cable you got for use with the PS3 to connect the TV to the computer.
