Lately I've seen TV programs about a super-worm that is infecting computers world wide. It is originating from both Russia and China and does no apparent harm to the computer at all and it is not easily detected or removed. The question raised is, "So what is its purpose if it doesn't cause any problems to the computers it invades?" The belief is that a mega version of the hub of computers that a 15 year old linked up and used to bring down Yahoo a couple of years ago is being developed. In the hands of a rogue country this could be used to bring a target country, like the USA, to its knees simply by targeting key installations - electricity generators, defence forces, government departments and agencies, oil refineries etc. The potential is terrifying. A totally new form of warfare.

Does anyone know of this? Is it a real threat or a case of the media not letting the truth get in the way of a good story? If it is real is there a way of checking for it and if found eradicating it? The report I saw said conventional AV and firewalls were not able to detect it, that, once in a computer, it moved about and morphed into different forms to avoid detection.
