Is Norton necessary w/XP and SP2?

1890 Views 9 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  redoak
Hi,
Almost everyday I notice that my computer downloads security updates from Windows. I find that web pages load much slower when I have Norton activated. Is it necessary to keep Norton running or am I covered just by Windows with the Service Pack 2?
Thanks a lot.

You absolutley need an Anti Virus. It does not need to be Norton, however.
You do not need Norton Internet Security, if that is the program slowing down your web page loading.
Instead, you can use a good firewall and anti-spywear program.
There are many applications, some free, that will do everything Norton Anti Virus and Norton Internet Security do for you and require much less resources.
