Is it safe to disable the built in graphics card in my Dell laptop?

The reason i want to do this is to figure out where a noise is coming from.

You can always reset the bios by removing the battery (bios battery) for at least 10 minutes or if it has a jumper just remove battery, set jumper then put it back (jumper) than reinstall the battery.

But what exactly are we talking about? what kind of noise?

noise usually comes from fans or harddrives or DVD/CD if media - or possible the PSU humming

try to localise the noise - check its not through the speaker first

as mentioned in a previous post there is a very very high pitched noise, its not the disk drives or the power unit so im thrying to eliminate other possiblities.

it is an ATI Radeon mobility X14000 in a laptop

it could be the batt charger.

Alot of people are complaining about the noise you describe emitting from the speakers. very doubtful it would be coming from the graphic display or GPU. probably have a sound card issue, driver , or a feedback type issue.
