This is a stupid question, but does your IP address change when you get a new computer, or does it stay the same if it's from the same household? Some explanation about this would be good.

Assume you refer to your IP address that you connect to the internet with?

That totally depends on the nature of the connection.

On dial-up you normally get a random one from the ISP "pool" of addresses when you connect.

On cable/ADSL/Broadband you may have one permanently assigned, or one that changes periodically depending on what the ISP offers.

your nick Mac address is what determent the ip address so let said you are paying for a fix ip address and you change your computer you will get another ip address cause your nick Mac
Address is not the same and you will have to re regiter the new mac adress with your isp
now all this come in place if we talking about only 1 computer and a DSL or cable modem
