What error message do you get when you type: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE under start/run?

Does she has an icon under "start/programs" named internet explorer?

Did you check the Program Files foldet to see if Internet Explorer folder is present?

Follow this steps 1st. Then we proceed from there.

Not everything shows when you try and search from the Windows Explorer.

Try opening up a CMD prompt
Change to the root of the C: drive ( cd\ )
Then run "dir iexplore.exe /s" - no quotes.
Note the location of the file.

You can then put a shortcut on the desktop

Another possibility is to load the powertoys for XP. In the Desktop section is where you can add the icon back on the desktop.

OK BOb
We found the files using your text command
we found iexplorer.exe in system32\dllcache and C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer
The problem is...we can find the files in DOS or by Command Prompt
But in windows XP there are no folders for dllcache nor Internet Explorer

That's one reason I don't always trust the search results from the Windows Explorer

Try starting it
Go to Tools / Folder Options / View
Check Show hidden files and folders
Uncheck Hide protected operating system folders (just be careful)

You might also try TweakUI mentioned earlier. I'd rather have the real icon there than a shortcut since you can change a lot of the properties of IE much easier that way.

We created the shortcut
and IE opened but then closed because Iexplore.exe could not be found
I think she may have a virus because she doesnt have any virus protection software.....and she has a DSL connectio

Sorry about the duplicate

Got into safe mode once.
Had alot of multidisk errors and she just shut the computer down
She hasnt been able to get into safe mode since
She is pressing the F8 key

If she gets into safe mode...do u think the system restore will work???

At this point, unless you have a good backup, there aren't too many other options.

If the restore doesn't work, you also might try booting with the XP CD and doing a Repair Install

If XP is corrupted to the point where none of the previous solutions get it to boot,
you can do a Repair Install that might work as well as keep the current settings.

Make sure you have your valid WindowsXP key
Insert and boot from your WindowsXP CD
At the second R=Repair option, press the R key
This will start the repair
Eventually you will be prompted for your XP key

nfinit1 - did you friend wait long enough to get past the "multidisk errors"?
Windows would display multiple lines with "multidisk errors " when you boot to safe mode.
That is normal.

Also what is the full STOP error message?
