First the long time issue (which might be related): I believe it's called P2P downloading, wordofwarcraft is a p2p downloader, uTorrent and GameTap (Gametap says they arent but i get the same problem when i run them). Whenever i run one of these 3 applications my internet on my entire network stops completely and randomly comes back in intervels until i shut them down.
Ive tried opening suggested ports, disabling the routers firewall.. etc, i can't figure out why I lose my connection when running any of these 3 apps. It takes me about 4 day's to download, at night, about 8-10 hours a night, a movie file using uTorrent.
Secondly, my most recent issue has been downloading movies (mostly from google video). Up until 2 week ago, i would start a simple movie .. watch it buffer for a 30second to a min or slighty more then the movie would play for the entire duration. Now it buffers, plays but the download catch up to quickly and the movie has to pause over and over again to catch up with the download.. how do i fix this "buffer calculation?" and could this be related to the above first problem?
I've done speed tests.. one from the sight suggested here on the forums, www.speakeasy.net and another from www.pcpitstop.com
Speakeasy says: 181 Download, 190 Upload - Kbps
PcPitStop says: 2226 Download - Kbps
Ive run those tests several times and the numbers are all similar.. why are they so different? and if i'm just missing something is this a normal speed for a cable connection
Hardware that i'm using is: Linksys Wireless-G 2.4Ghz router, Surfboard high speed Modem Sunrocket VOIP box(problem exsisted before i intalled this). I have 3 computers on my network and 1 laptop that's only on before i go to sleep.
Oh, one last thing to note, i have never upgraded my routers firmware. Was always afraid of that... so if that's a suggestion i might have to try, whats the best way to go about it? ive never done it before
-Thanks in advance
