Hi everyone,

I have a home network with four Dell computers running Windows XP with SP2. I am using a Belkin Cable/DSL Gateway Router, model #F5D5231-4, with the latest firmware upgrade. I am also using a Scientific/Atlanta Webstar cable modem, model #DPC2100, with Adelphia cable internet.

At least once every day and usually twice, the network goes down. All I have to do is unplug the power on the back of the router, wait thirty seconds and plug it back in, and the router resets itself and I have my network back up. This daily unplugging can't be good for the router.

This has become a daily hassle, and I have to keep the peace with my three teenagers and my wife. I contacted Belkin tech support, and they told me that the problem probably lies in one of the computers, either software or hardware. What could be knocking out the network, and how should I go about troubleshooting this problem? I am at a loss, and really need some help.

Thank you for your time!

Danny

Have you tried another router?

If they think it is one of the computers, and assuming that connection to the Internet also will be down, can you try leaving only one on at a time. If there is a problem getting to the Internet, then likely that is the problem computer.

If one at a time doesn't work, try two at a time.
