I just got a new plextor PX 708-A DVD/CD writer. I did have a lite on DVD Rom Drive and a Samsung CD-RW. I installed the new drive as master, like it said ,and the DVD ROM as slave. I was used to copying CD's by using my 2 older drives...they are a yr old. This won't let me do that. I have to use the Plextor as both the source and the destination drive. Is there a way I could connect my other 2 drives as well and use them together. Before the DVD drive was CS and the other was slave. Thanks for any help.

If you have one Hard drive then you should be able to connect 3 other drives. If you are using calbe select then use this for all your optical drives unless you wish to set certain ones up as master in which case set them all as master or slave as appropriate.

You should be able to keep the new as master and make the old DVD as slave. That will allow you to use the DVD as a straight playback for both CD's and DVD's to record from.

Are you sure it's the hardware when you say
This won't let me do that.
If you installed a new version of Nero with the new drive, as an example, there's a setting to write directly to the recorder or store an image first.

What sort of message are you getting when you try a direct burn? Maybe I'm confused  ;)

I e-mailed tech support for plextor and they told me to use it for both the source and destination drive. They said all drives aren't compatible to do the on the fly copying. The error message is that the source and destination drives are incompatible. The DVD ROM is working and plays CD's etc. Plextor says it needs to be Master drive, so I have the DVD ROM drive as slave. I do only have one hard drive, so could I set up my CD-RW as slave to that? I haven't tried that yet. Thanks for your help.

Hmmm.... Seems odd to me.

Yes, you'd have that as Primary slave and the DVD-CD-RW as secondary master with the dvd-rom as secondary slave but here's a thought to reduce drive clutter.

What about trying the new Plextor as Secondary master and the old Samsung CD-RW as Secondary slave while taking out the Lite-on DVD all together.

You'd have DVD playback, DVD recording and possibly on the fly with the Samsung to Plextor. It would be interesting to see if the CD-RW IS compatible for on the fly with the new Plextor.

It wouldn't allow "fly" copying dvd to dvd but might for CD to CD. What OS are you using Ruth? XP does have some problems with "On the fly" too.

EDIT: Just saw this: OS WinXP Home

Thanks, I'll try removing the DVD ROM and just using the Samsung CD-RW and see what happens. I won't have time to try til this eve or tomorrow, but I'll let you know when I do.

I said it would be a day or 2 to get this done, but it's been a week already.
Anyway, I tried putting the CD-RW back and it will let me do the on the fly copying with CD's. I don't copy that many DVD's anyway, it's mostly CD's.
Thanks for your help on this. I tried to install all 3 drives...but it wouldn't let me install that many. I wasn't sure on that.
