I have heard and read some things on doing this but I'm confused....here is the problem I see. If I but a flash drive in my computer and then install lets say XP or whatever onto it, how can I take that to another computer and boot up off of it? The installation is recognized by MY registry, not the new computers. Please explain this....

Thanks!

Right.....so for someone to market a jump drive with an os or whatever to boot up on....it doesn't seem like it would work unless they reinstalled that on the other computer right?

You can't do what you're talking about with Windows and a flash drive. I've read about some Linux distros that can be burned to a CD with a flash drive used to read and write data.

Microsoft is not that flexible.

I have a BartPe disk....though I'm not quite sure how to use it......but I see things in magazines about installing an OS on a jump drive for troubleshooting reasons....but I can't make that work in my mind. I don't see how it could....but I'm still learning...LOL I see they sell these drives in Best Buy but not sure how a tech could use them.

Thanks!

So if you install an OS on a flash drive....you can not use it to boot up another pc, only a bart disk can do that. You can however create a bartpe disk in a flsh drive?

Look on Google for U3 Sandisk and see lots of info. I think it can store software, but I don't think (can't imagine) being able to store an operating system.
It comes with SKYPE (the telephone program) AVAST (anti-virus) and something else I found useless, but I left the U# in place just in case. My flash-drive shows two drive letters, one normal and one shows as U3.
