I just bought the Asus 87N8X-E Deluxe motherboard but now I need some help on how to set up those little wires that come from the switch to power on. They are labeled with various abreviated names and are small and rectangular. Im not sure where to plug them in and the users manual doesnt seem to cover it. If anyone can help me.. Id be greatful :D

THe wires and the pins on the board are labeled. I have never seen an ASUS motherboard manual that did not have the connections. Generally the power switch leads are green and white.

Hey,
I had issues with my asus board as well, I found that you had to install them like this:

. . . . . __ . .
. .__. . . .
where the dots are the pins and the __ are the connectors. The best bet is to start with the power connector. This is the easiest to tell if hooked up correctly, as the switch will not work any other way. Then go for the reset switch, followed by the LEDs. The LEDs are polarity sensitive, so if the LED stays on indefidently, then it is plugged in backwards and needs to be reversed.

The pins are identified on the large reference/sticker provided by ASUS that can be attached to the computer case, and it's also printed on page 2-28 of the User Guide. However it doesn't appear to be printed on the motherboard itself. White wires are usually the negative and the dark coloured wires are positive.

VCC L in and Mic In are for your front panel sound. They do not need to be connected unless you want to connect your speakers and such to the front of your computer. Your Hard disk lite is probably labeled HDD and that should be all you need for front panel connections. Unless your case has front usb as well.

The only thing you REALLY need plugged in is the power switch...

Well that may be true but a reset switch and HDD lite are nice things to have as well.

Kind of hard to get a description of your particular mobo case combination. unfortunately while most mobo's are standard, not all case manufacturers are. so the labeling may not match. is this stil the problem you are having?

Maggz, I have taken a look at the manual for your motherboard. It seems to be quite straight forward. But then I cant find any sort of information for your case. With out knowing what kind of wires you need to connect inside your case I cant go any farther. If you can make a list of the connectors you are having a problem with, include the markings on the connectors I will try to matchthese up for you. If it is the front USB connectors these should be rather easy. If it is the front audio connctors the question is do you really want to have those connections laying out bare for the world to see? I did not use the front audio on mine at all. I prefer to have the wiring mess like that hidden behind the desk.

Ok here we go..
---------------------------
VCC (red wire)
(2) - D (white wire)
(2) + D (green wire)
GND (black wire)
----------------------------
VCC (red wire)
(2) - D (white wire)
(2) + D (green wire)
GND (black wire)
----------------------------
H.D.D LED (Red and black wire)
----------------------------
L-IN (white wire)
L-Out (red wire)
GND (black wire)
MIC-In (orange wire)
----------------------------
R-Out (red wire)
MIC-IN (green wire)
R-IN (white wire)
GND (black wire)
-----------------------------

They are separated by how they are bunched. All I want is for my front panel Creative slot to use my line-in mic along with my 5 front end USB ports. I am highly in your debt.

Ok Maggz, the HDD led is pretty simple. It goes to the front panel switch pins labeled the same. It is your hard drive activity led. If you use the front audio connectors you probably will not be able to use your rear audio. I am going to read the manual and see what it says. the other wires are your front usb wires. Let me look to see if they are labeled for you as well. It will take me a few minutes

ok here goes nothing on the usb connectors. If the connectors are individual wires with small single pin connectors on each here is how they should be connected. Red wire VCC goes to the pin marked USB +5V White wire marked -D goes to pin marked USB_P5- and the other to USB_P6- the Green wire goes to the pin marked USB_P5+ and the other green wire to the pin marked USB_P6+ the black wires go to the pins marked GND. Make sure that you hook the wires on one connector up to one side of the block like USB+5V-USB_P5- - USB_P5+ - GND the other connector to the side that has the P6's on it. According to the manual you can only hook two front USB connectors. This is not an uncommon thing. Now do you have a front Firewire port on your case?
