Images show up as IMG_XXXX.JPEG in emails, can't see

692 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Couriant
The sender doesn't remember what the pictures were or if he still has them but they're important. He also can't find the email in his "sent" box.

I've tried to search IMG_XXXX (the numbers they displayed) in my hard drive as we've both recently backed up all of our photos, but none come up that relate to that name.

I've searched the internet low and high and asked IT people but I can't find a solution. :( please help

I've attached a photo of what it looks like so you can see.

I've also tried viewing them on icloud and gmail, as well as on my iphone and windows PC, on chrome and brave (another browser).

The sender needs to search for IMG_3656.jpeg and IMG_3657.jpeg on his/her hard drive.

Thanks for replying! He's done that as we live together and share the same hard drive. Sorry I didn't make that clear. It sounded like a miracle solution to me, but he must have deleted it between sending it and uploading all his pics onto the hard drive.
The recipient may still have both pictures, can you ask them to look ?
Also you may have to log in with the 'male' account to search for those 2 files.

What software was he using to send that Email ?
Hi!

He has done those things alresdy and unfortunately has deleted them since sending.

He used the gmail app on iOS and iCloud Mail on the iOS Mail app.

He sent me this to send to you, it's more detailed and helpful :)

Pictures have been sent in two ways
1. Took a screenshot using iPhone with latest iOS update
Clicked the share button, and attached it to an email
Waited for attachment to load
Got confirmation it had loaded
Sent email

2. Took a screenshot using iPhone with latest iOS update
Added to an iPhone note
Copied from the iPhone note (using copy and paste)
Pasted into the body of an email
Waited for it to load
Got confirmation it had loaded
Sent email

Just ran a test
All photos sent using process 1. Showed up fine in my "sent" folder

All photos sent using process 2. Showed up as the same problematic thing:
IMG_5211.PNG

This happened despite them being visibly copied into the email and appearing as a visible photo when it was sent

Assuming that the problem
Has therefore only occurred when process 2. Was being used

1. Why?

2. Can I retrieve these photos in any way?

3. Can this process ever be used properly or do I need to do something differently from now on?

Recipient doesn't have email - it just comes up with
Font Screenshot Software Rectangle Electronic device

And when going into the sent folder, the sent email also has the same thing

Checked this on 2xdesktops and 2xiPhones all show the same thing

This has happened in multiple emails, but only been noticed recently

NB/ for 1. The screenshots have since been deleted, does this make a difference
NB/ for 2. The notes have since been deleted, does this make a difference?

They were sent sometimes using the GMAIL app on IOS, sometimes using the standard Apple MAIL app
- couldn't say which app was used for which photos and therefore not sure whether or not the problem occurred in both apps or just one or the other

Thank you for help :)

I assumed you had sent the Emails in Windows, I have no experience with iPhones.
I have asked the other Mods/Admins to look at this thread to see if they can help.
Provided that they were not deked from the iPhone, you can connect the iPhone to your Windows machine then on the iPhone select Allow to allow Windows to view the photo folders.
In File explorer you can go to the Apple iPhone and then DCIM folder. Next will be a series of folders. Those will have photos from across the months/years. You should be able to search for the image that way.
