I've been having trouble with my computer for several months...
After I have opened several web site, and I close one of them, the rest of them freeze up and I have to open Task Manager to end the programs so I can start over again.
Just now when I opened task manager, I spotted something running at 30% and am wondering what it is and if it is something that shouldn't be on my computer.
It's called "igfxEM Module"

Can someone tell me if I can safely end this task and/or uninstall it all together?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that igfx is associated with the Intel graphic device in your computer.

What's the brand name and model name and model number of your computer?

--------------------------------------------------------------

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

Information about your computer will appear.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

Your computer has an Intel Core i5-4460S 2.90 GHz quad core processor, so that means it has an Intel HD Graphics 4600 integrated graphic device - which your log shows.

Your computer appears to be a HP desktop.
What is its model name and complete model number, and what is its exact product number(P/N)?

We don't know how you use and maintain your computer and what's installed and running in it, so there could be a number of reasons for the issues you're having with it.

Also, I often get "script error" pop-up box that won't go away after repeatedly clicking the x box... I have to close the program.
I have a lot of trouble with eBay, waiting for all the images to load.
I was just looking at this web site http://www.intellicast.com/National/Radar/Current.aspx?animate=true
and the screen went white, then flickered off and on, then I got the script error box "unspecified error."
If I recall correctly, a while back the script error said something about Adobe Reader DC.

You appear to have a HP Pavilion 500-410t CTO(Custom-To-Order) Desktop PC which came with Windows 8.1 64-bit.

The "Troubleshooting - Lockups & PC Performance - Lockups, Freezes, Hangs & Crashes" section may be helpful to you.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I've never used Windows 8 or 8.1, so I'm not familiar with its settings and what issues it may have.

I'm not there to see how your desktop and monitor(unknown description) are connected, so I'm not sure if you have a hardware issue or a software issue or both.

Okay, Thanks for having a look. I'll try reposting in the Troubleshooting section.

I'm referring to the "Troubleshooting" section in your desktop's support site.

Your desktop shows a lot(100) of running processes, so that's probably the main reason why it's having performance issues.

If you click the first link in the first sentence in post #8, it'll bring up the support site for your desktop.

If you started another thread, I'll advise one of the Moderators to close it.

I've been reading the Troubleshooting section on my computer and I don't understand it.
I don't know the difference between a process, an application, and software.

I checked the programs list and the only security I have is Charter.
I don't see anything else there that shouldn't be there.
When I close out IE from task manager, that unlocks/unfreezes the computer.
When I look at details in task manager, there are three iexplorer.exe that say "suspended" and four others that say "running." Only one of them is using cpu.
There are two others that say "suspended": PhotosApp.exe and WWAHost.exe.
Everything else is "running" at 0, except that igfxEM Module which is at 30%.

I'll run a virus scan (but it does it automatically) anyway. And check of an IE update.
I don't know what else to do.
:(

#25 ·
I tried to install the IE update for my computer - Windows 8.1 64 - and a message popped up saying
View attachment 253864
What does this mean?
Going to do a virus scan now...
It means you don't need the update, it doesn't apply to Windows 8.1, or your computer's patch level is not at the level that the patch applies too, or you already have a newer update installed. Run Windows Update and see if it offers you any new updates.

#18 ·
As I previously said, I've NEVER used Windows 8 or 8.1, so I know nothing about its settings or how it detects and installs updates.

All 3 of my full-time desktops run Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit and are completely different in their settings and how they detect and install updates.

You need some "hands on" help by someone who's computer-knowledgeable and who's familiar with Windows 8.1.

Let's make sure your computer isn't infected with malware/spyware/etc. or hasn't accumulated a massive number of temp files.
Do the following in the order that I've listed them.

Go here to download and save Malwarebytes AdwCleaner to your desktop.
If you get a warning that this file is unsafe, ignore the warning.
Close all open windows first, then double-click the AdwCleaner desktop icon to load its main window.
Click the "Scan" button, then allow the scanning process to finish.
Several seconds may pass before the scanning process starts and completes, so be patient.
If any threats are found, the number found will appear in red.
Click the "Clean" button, then click "OK".
Allow the cleaning process to finish.
When it's finished, click "OK" in each window that appears.
The computer will restart.
When the log appears during restart, save it.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log here.

Go here, then click the "Download Now @ Author's Site" button to download and save TFC.exe (Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer) to your desktop.
After it's downloaded and saved, close all open windows.
Double-click it to load its main window.
Click the "Start" button.
If there are a large number of temp files or if there are multiple user accounts, the temp file deletion process may appear to freeze and may take a few minutes, so don't interfere with or abort it.
After it's finished, restart the computer.
Advise how many temp files in MB's were found and removed.

Download and save and then install the free version of SUPERAntiSpyware 6.0.1230
Make sure to uncheck and decline to install any extras, such as toolbars and homepages, it may offer.
Make sure to uncheck and decline to use the "Pro" or "Trial" version when it's offered.
After it's installed, do the following to set it up and use it:

Start SUPERAntiSpyware, then click "System Tools".
Click "Preferences", then uncheck the top 3 boxes in "General Configuration"(which will restart it), then click "Done".
Click "Advanced Settings", then uncheck "Follow shortcuts (*.lnk) during scan", then click "OK - Done".
Click "Click here to check for updates".
When the definition files have updated, click "OK".
Click "Scan This Computer", then click "Quick Scan".
If problems are found during the scan, the number of them will be highlighted in red.
When the scan is finished, click "Continue".
Make sure that EVERYTHING in the list is selected, then click "Continue".
When the removal process is complete, click "Continue".
If you're prompted to restart to finish the removal process, do so.
Start SUPERAntiSpyware again.
Click "System Tools", then click "Scan Logs".
Select the most current scan log, then click on its magnifying glass icon so it can open and be viewed, then save it on the desktop.
Return here, then copy-and-paste its ENTIRE contents here.

Done.
The forum wouldn't allow the entire log - too long.
Here's the header:

It looks like Google Chrome and Firefox are two big culprits, but I Never use either of them even though they are installed on my computer. I'm going to uninstall them both now.

Hey - guess what?!
I've been opening and closing multiple browsers for about thirty minutes now and - no locking up! - I think the problem has been solved with the clean-up tools!

Thank you SO much for your help.
I'll mark this one "solved."
:D

#28 ·
I'm going to assume you selected and removed everything that SUPERAntiSpyware found.
Run another "Quick Scan" to be sure.
If a few adware tracking cookies are displayed, that's normal.

I'm glad to hear your locking up issue has been resolved. (y)
If you put AdwCleaner and SUPERAntiSpyware and Temp File Cleaner to use at least every 2 weeks or so, it'll keep your computer clean of threats and temp files.

---------------------------------------------------------------

#29 ·
You're lucky that I received your last reply because I usually remove myself from a thread once it's been marked "Solved".

Run a "Scan" and "Clean" with Malwarebytes AdwCleaner and a "Quick Scan" with SUPERAntiSpyware until they come up clean with no threats.
There's no need to submit those scan logs here.

I don't know what your computing habits are and how safe they are, but it may become necessary for you to put those tools to use more often than I suggested.

I check the weather, check into a couple of forums, a little shopping, and do a bit of research and that's about it.
Btw, that igfxEM Module is no longer running at 30%, it's at 0 now, so that problem has definitely been solved.
Thank you!
