I have operating system XP... the problem is I have aol now .. and I hate it.. only because when I use to have comcast... which I love, everything is so much quicker w/comcast, some how I got a third party, I couldn't get in my e-mails. popups galore, it was taking me to sites, that I didn't want to go to, I talked to my computer support team we tried everything, I also talked to a tech at comcast, they couldn't help either but they did advise me to get an internet security suite. So I did I purchased the mcafee 2004 6.0 internet security suite. I installed it but something was not connecting kept having problems, So I decided to get rid of comcast and try aol on a free trial. After I did that I had no problems so I decided to stick with aol for awhile until I find some help with the IE. Now, when it's time to download or uprade on my mcafee it pulls up the IE and downloads from there and that's when I get my problems that I had before, So what I'm thinking... and I could be wrong, but I think it was my IE and not comcast after all. I would love to go back to comcast.. So my question is.. can I delete the IE that I have on my computer... off my computer? please help!! My computer is only 1 years old and I'm at the point to just go and purchase a whole new computer and start all over.. I really hate aol...it just takes to long to do anything, and always booting me off. So please any suggestion would help me.
Thank You.

In XP Internet Explorer is an integral part of the OS so uninstalling is not really an option. You can try a repair, maybe that might help. Go to Start > Run and copy and paste in this command exactly as you see it:

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Setup\SETUP.EXE" /g "C:\WINDOWS\IE Uninstall Log.Txt"

Another option if that doesn't solve the problem is to use an alternate browser like Firefox or Mozilla 1.7.5. They not only tend to be more troublefree but in many cases faster:
