~I have reinstalled the OS a few weeks ago and have come across the same issue I had the last time this was performed. IE 11 does not seem to open .png files using "Open with." It only opens when I type the full path into the address bar and hit enter and repeat this at least two or three times then it opens the image. When it has opened a png image it allows other png images to open by way of drag and drop. Every other attempts/ means only opens a message box "View and track downloads." I need for it to open using the context menu "Open with." It does not seem to matter what default program is chosen or which image program is or is not installed. The defaults were changed to and back using all conventional methods and no change in effect. It has no problem opening other image formats. The issue applies to any png type whether transparent or not and any size thereof. It is to open by displaying the image on its window as if it were displaying any other page.

If this thread needs to be moved elsewhere please do so and notify me as well. If this has been solved elsewhere please share the link to that solution. Thank you;

There are 2 programs that come with Windows 7 to view png files: Paint and Windows Photo Viewer. use either of them.

You can also install a 3rd party program to view images.

IE is a browser; it was not designed to be a photo viewer.
~Is there any one who can help with this issue I am having with IE? For as long as just about anyone knows, yes IE is a browser, but it can still open images, even png. Yes, there are several other options for opening images, and I have quite a few. I need to know how to have IE 11 behave as it did for so long. There is a solution as I have already stated, I'd like to find it again. To be blunt I am looking only for solutions not... Can I expect assistance or should I look elsewhere? Everything else is immaterial.
~The issue is not which program to get to open the image, it is that IE, when chosen to, doesn't. I need to have IE 11 open png images using the context menu "Open with" by displaying the image on its window as it would any other page. As of yet, it only pops up a message box "View and track downloads" as if it were a file to "download" instead of display. Default or not, it does not open png images. There is a solution, I had this issue before from the last time I reinstalled this OS.
