I just thought up of this new way for the police to find out whats going on in the known bad neighborhoods in my area.

What if,,,,a network of microphones were wired together that would detect gun shots or loud gun shot like sounds. This way the police could be dispatched to at the very least scare off the drug dealers or gangsters that were shooting.

The microhpones would have computers along with them that would help send a warning signal to a main computer somewhere and this way the police could know whats up.

This network of microphones would obviously only work for known problematic areas.

QUICK SOMEONE INVENT IT AND MAKE LOTS OF MONEY OFF IT, DONT FORGET TO TELL THEM TO INSTALL IT AROUND MY NEIGHBORHOOD.

I have got really messy neihbors

The pic of the front of their house is not that bad.
They got new furniture a few years back and it the old furniture went out in the front yard with the boxes for the new stuff. The boxes finally disolved into the ground. They are trying to sell the place so it looks cleaned to there standards

they throw there garbage out the back door and then let it pile up. They had a big above ground pool up and it got real green and stinky (no knowledge of chemicals.) Instead of draining it, they left it up and it finally burst from the ice ect. and went into my yard. They have had the city out more than once and they have actually removed piles of garbage from the back of my neihbors house and charged them for the clean up. Still to no avail. I have seen the inside of their house and it has boxes and garbage to the ceiling with paths cut out to get through.

Cannot wait till these folks move!

people would steal the mics, they would probably have to be on the lamppost, or street signs. some gevernment owned property that isnt trapled in everyday use.

It would be extremely difficult for the microphones to differentiate between background noises[lawn mowers,vehicles,slamming front doors etc] and those of firearms which come in a variety of flavours and volumes.
The money for the installation and maintenance of the equipment and manpower to monitor the system would be more wisely spent on gun control/education and policing.
Whilst its not a cost effective idea don't let it stop you coming up with ways to prevent crime in your area.

It'd be just like the thugs in the bad neighborhoods to either:

1.) Shoot all the mics!

2.) Purposely get a lot of themselves together and position themselves at different mics and all shoot at once for fun!

3.) Fire shots in one end of the neighborhood and then scurry to the other end to rob every possible business or person while the police are investigating the set of gunshots on the other end of town!

It was done many years ago in at least one neighborhood I know of. The local kids derived great amusement from setting off M-80's and watching the police come barreling around corner.

The gang bangers and drug dealers could easily defeat such a system by using silencers. Gunfire would then be indistinguishable from background noise.

Isn't there at least one town in the UK that has security cameras all over town....I know I saw a Dateline/Primetime Live/20/20 on this a couple of years ago....

I'm with pronute...a bit too Big Brother'ish for me....

Just saw a program last night that was debating the police patrols in bad neighborhoods and most of the complainers claimed that it was racial profiling....????? White, black, blue, green, or purple, if a neighborhood is dangerous and police start questioning the inhabitants and people loitering there, is it really profiling? hmmmmmmm?
