Driver provider microsoft

Does the drive still appear in My Computer? How about in Device Manager? Can you see the CD drive there with no errors?

Have you uninstalled it from Device Manager and rebooted? If it still fails, perhaps it's really broken.

You need no disks, just reboot and Windows installs the default optical device drivers.

ok I did what you recommended. It now recognizes DVDs but not Cds....I did not check a DVD in it before I posted so I am not sure if it was accepting DVDS prior to the uninstall.

Perhaps it's time to blow the dust out of the drive. It could be the drive is about to give up the ghost. CD's and DVD's are read with different wavelength light from the drive's laser, so one can fail while the other works.
