I've recently purchsed a new laptop with a combo DVD/CD RW drive. When trying to copy data (MP3, jpegs, etc) backed up on CD from my desktop, the drive often fails to read and I get error message "I/O Device Error" sometimes it will copy 100mb before doing this, sometimes it will not read anything. I've tried various CDs burnt on different PCs but all have failed. Purchased software seems toload OK. Even a CD burnt on my laptop failed to copy all the data back onto my hard drive, but all these Cs work on my desktop and work laptop.
The vendor insists that there is not a problem and it's common for some DVD/CD drives not to read all CDs. Is this correct. Is it because I'm trying to copy data by draging it? It's strange as it's an intermittent problem

Thanks. The only CDs that have worked ok are software, (MS Office, iTunes, PSP8) Not one out of 8 CDs that I (or a friend) have bunt has been 100% successful. Media looks OK, as I say they work on my desktop & work laptop. Anyone got any ideas. I'm convinced it must be a fault with the DVD/CD drive,
