If there is anyone out there who can help me prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that some emails that I have recieved are either real or phony, please help me. My relationship with my boyfriend depends on it. Thank you.

No way you'll be able to prove anything without a court order, and even then there's no guarantee. Can you afford an attorney? Do you have legal standing to compel information from an Internet Service Provider?

If your relationship depends on an e-mail message, you have far bigger problems than technology can solve.

proofseeker, welcome to Tech Support Guy forums.

You will please forgive our young hot-bloods who forget their manners.

I regret I have no suggestions to make which might prove useful to you.

Ben.

Perhaps proof you could explain what you are trying to prove or disprove. (without incriminating information)

That might help you get a usable response.

I think the answer is no.
but I agree-if your relationship is so fragil that email (or photos or rumors) can upset it then back away some and let things mature a little. Life is too short to be paranoid about such issues.

There are internet headers in every email message. You can set your email browser to display them. They will show from what IP address and domain the email was sent. If the domain does not contain that IP, you know it was spoofed. You can post this info(just the sending domain and IP) here for people to review.

But the likelyhood of finding anything out in that way is pretty slim. The number of people with the knowledge to spoof email is quite low, so it's probably more likely that someone got ahold of your boyfriend's username and password and sent an email from his account. In which case, even if it really was sent from his account, that would have little implication for your relationship.

You've only got one post on this site, and it affords a lot of anonymity, so you might consider posting your full problem here in the random section of the forum. Just a thought. Use your discretion.

BanditFlyer made the same point I was trying to make. It's entirely possible for someone (anyone) to get their password and username and send an email from that account, so there really is no way to prove, in a court of law, who sent it. The others made a good point too. Relationships are dependent on trust; without it, they won't work. So if you're that suspicious of him, then you have far greater problems than figuring out who sent an email message.

this is not what you want to hear, and not a nice answer for new year's eve....but it strikes me that if you can't ask him and trust his response, then something non-technical is order.
