I need help in upgrading my RAM. Please Help

I wanted to upgrade my ram to a faster one that my MOBO can handle (3200mhz). I have trouble understanding if any ddr4 module ram with max 3200mhz and upto 64GB would do or is there any thing other specifics that I need to look into. If anyone can help me find a suitable ram with better speeds would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Reason for upgrade:
I am facing some lags and fps drops while gaming.

Also will this Ram work if in case I buy this: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB DDR4 (8GBx2) 3200Mhz: F4-3200C16S-16GVK

My Current Configuration:
CPU: Intel i5 6600k 3.5 Ghz
Motherboard: Asus z170 pro gaming
RAM: GSkill Ripjaw 5 F4-2400C15S-8GVR. (looking to upgrade to min 3200mhz & 32gb capacity)
GPU: Zotac RTX 2060 Super 8 GB
PSU: Corsair RM1000X
CPU Cooler: CM liquid lite 120

Based on the hardware list you posted, it's my guess DDR4 in your computer will not run faster than 2133 MHz unless it's overclocked.
If I'm wrong, one of the hardware/gaming experts here can correct me.
Be patient and wait until one of them replies to you.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. So would you suggest that i buy ram with same speed then?

And also i would really like to know how you determined that it will not run faster? Is it my MOBO or my cpu?
I determined that by the description of the Intel processor and ASUS motherboard you posted.

The Intel processor supports DDR4-2133 modules.

The ASUS motherboard supports DDR4-2133 modules (not overclocked).

Pardon my lack of knowledge. Thank you for helping me understand it.

This is direclty related to the age of you system and mainly your CPU. It's your bottle neck with just 4 cores and no hyperthreading.

I would upgrade the CPU to the i7 7700K.....which has 4 cores and 4 threads for a total of 8 cores. Your mobo supports this CPU. Your RTX 2060 SC 8 Gb is not shabby at all....a nice mid level GPU.

If you do upgrade your RAM, I wouldn't look past 3200 mhz. I would go with, if you stay with Gskill, go with the Trident Z series if your mobo supports it.

Then make sure you use the XMP setting in the BIOS. This will set it to the maximum mhz of the RAM. By default all modern RAM start out at 1333 mhz. Here's your mobo RAM support QVL....

You make that CPU change, which is way cheaper than building a new system, you should see your FPS increase and be more stable.

Thank you so much.. So if I get this right I am supposed to upgrade my CPU (which I believe would be a bit over the budget) or upgrade any ram in the list provided in the link up to speed of 3200mhz and setup the XMP feature on the bios (I don't know how to do that :p). Am I correct?

I found G.Skill Trident Z 16GB RGB DDR4 3200MHz RAM - F4-3200C16D-16GTZR, as you suggested.

Sorry for being a complete idiot about it. I am a noob trying to learn..
No need to apologize......we all have to learn at some point. I was in your shoes when I first started. No better way then to just dive in.....of course researching goes with that.

Really, all you would need to do is upgrade your CPU to an 8 core with in your finical means and keep your current RAM and just set the XMP setting in the BIOS.

To set the XMP up.....just google XMP setup on youtube for your mobo. There are lots of tutorial videos on the subject. Once you see it done....it's no big deal....no big deal for intel boards. On AMD boards.....you'll need to know a thing or to about OC'ing RAM in the BIOS. Intel makes it so easy.....on click of a button and your done.

Thanks a ton for the help. I'll try to do the XMP feature on the bios and will upgrade my CPU in a month or 2. I am so happy to have joined this forum. You guys are awesome 🙌
Frank did all the leg work.....I just caught the bottle neck and suggested a plan of action.

Thank you @flavallee 🙌
You're welcome. :)

By the way, if you do upgrade the processor, you may need to update the motherboard's BIOS software first.

Don't make the mistake of finding out the hard way that your computer won't start after you upgraded the processor because it needed a BIOS update first.

3016 appears to be the current BIOS update.
