Brush: I love the big band era!! :) I played the clarinet and that was the music I enjoyed playing the most! Just got hooked on it at an early age! :) Take care! angel :)
The 70's....wouldn't want to repeat old mistakes
No, you're right Marlene. We're making all new ones!
Marlene! I thought I was the only big band fan here...
Nope! Another Miller fan here: favourite tunes = Little Brown Jug, In the Mood and Moonlight Serenade.
You're probably right about that Jim! :D

I also like the Andrew Sisters! :)
Disco still sucks
Yes, you are right hammerbill, and it is alive and well today. Just listen to Britney Spears, Janet Jackson or any one of hundreds of pop tarts churning out syncopated, mindless drivel. Poor Buddy Holly must be spinning in his grave!

I wouldn't want to go back in time, the past decades had their moments. And for all their appeals, they had their faults.

I like change.

I just think back to growing up in the 80s and it's amazing how much has changed, and yet, the change happens so slowly we barely notice.

But the advancements are mostly all good. For one...our clothes...what the HELL were we thinking with that whole "flourescent clothes fad", *shiver* Instant access to all the knowledge we need.

I remember having to go to the library, taking out references, reading, making notes, etc...it took hours to find what I needed to write a report. Now, I have all the information I need at the click of a mouse.

Lazy? Yeah...kinda, but it's efficient. And isn't that the key to success in this society...efficiency.

I can pay my bills online in seconds, no waiting for the mail. Instead of waiting 6-8 weeks for mail order, it's now 2-3 because we only have to wait for the package to arrive, and don't need to worry about the time it takes for our order to be recieved and processed.

We take the best things from the past, and they come with us through time, and are improved upon. Yeah, there was that step down from Beta to VHS, but I think we can all agree, with DVD now...we're lightyears ahead.

Just thinking back at how far society has come in the last 20 some odd years I've been on this rock, makes me wonder what will change in the next 20. Change keeps life exciting.

ps Canada > America ;)

What I really want is the 50s with today's technology ;)

And without the social/racial bias's that existed more strongly during that period.

Cheers
Good point, Rmay...
Brush: I'll jitterbug with you...as long as you aren't in drag!!! :D
Sorry, Marlene, but I never learned to jitterbug...perhaps a waltz?
Ok if you insist! :D
I actually don't waltz very well either...but I can manage.

I'm just not much of a dancer...I just like to listen.
Same here brush - two left feet. I leave dancing to the professionals.

Do you happen to like classical music, perchance?
Jim: I love "Water Music"! :) I first heard it when Tricia Nixon got married in the Rose Garden at the White House...loved it ever since! :)
I like classical, Jazz, blues, swing, oldies, old country music (most of the new stuff is NOT country!),show tunes....almost anything but rap and hip-hop.

That is scarey! That is just about word for word how I would have described my musical tastes!
I don't believe our musical tastes are all that unusual, Jim...except with the younger generation.
Correction Brush, our tastes are perfectly fine, it's the younger generation that is unusual! :D
Hey you guys are soul mates! :D
