Hi,
I'm using Windows XP Media Center edition and I'm trying to stop Media Center from automatically starting every time I put a DVD into my drive because I prefer to use Windows Media Player over Media Center.
I have already gone to /My Computer/D and used the Autoplay dialog box to set Windows Media Player to "Play DVD video" and checked the "Always do selected action" box (as a help page on the microsoft site suggested).
However, Media Center still insists on starting itself every time a DVD is inserted.
Please help!
Thanks..

Thanks for the replies.
I have set wmp to be the default player in program access and defaults but it doesn't help. I have also gone to folder options and associated the file types DVD and DVD file which I found present to be opened by wmp. Still, Media Center launches itself automatically everytime i pop a dvd in. :( Anything else I should try?
Thanks..

Try Control Panel-> Folder Options-> File Types and look for DVD Movie. If it's not there Try New-> Advanced and use the drop down to find it, then associate it with WMP.
Did you look for and find DVD Movie, not files whatever. DVD Movie is how it's listed for me.

Lol.. that's what I've been doing all this while...
Thanks anyway MysticEyes for the many suggestions. I can't think of anything else either and I can't find anything helpful on the web either...
The only solution I have at this point is to watch less dvds... : P
cheers.

I found this thread trying to do the same and TweakUI gave me the answer:

With a DVD in the drive, right click that drive in Windows Explorer (or MyComputer) and pick AutoPlay and in the dialog that comes up select the program you want to autoplay your DVD's with AND check the box for "Always do the selected action". If the program isn't already listed you need to associate that program with DVD's: assume MysticEyes' first suggestion of

Try Control Panel-> Folder Options-> File Types and look for DVD Movie. If it's not there Try New-> Advanced and use the drop down to find it, then associate it with WMP.
would make that happen but I could be wrong. The proram I wanted to use was already there. And Media Center has quit opening my DVD's.
