I'm really hoping that one of you nice and knowledgeable people will be able to help. I am having a complete mare and have been trying to fix my computer for ages now.
Basically I had a load of system faliures in a row -- kept getting the blue screen and messages advising me that windows was recovering froma serious error.
Then one day it crashed all together and I had to run the OS repair with the discs that came with the computer. All appeared ok, but I was still a bit unstable and crashed a lot. Then one day it just wouldn't boot up at all so I ran the repair again.
When I came back on I just couldn't get wireless to work and my disc drive had disappeared so I couldn't even run the applications disc!! After fiddling around for about 2 days I got the disc back - still don't know how but spent a lot of time in device manager and eventually it worked!! My last virus scan (avast) said that I had a trojan horse. I deleted this.
But no matter what I just can't get my wireless to work.
In my network places it says:
"Wireless Network Connection. Connected Firewalled, Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802"
I have an apple airport express whic I reinstalled the software for and I am running the latest firmware so I don't think it is that - also my neighbour (who has my password etc) can still connect to my internet.
When I refresh the lists of networks in range the airport comes up and it shows in the taskbar that I am connected. But can't get on line! Also, with an airport you can stream music from itunes and i can't do that anymore either.
my computer is a HP pavillion notebook zv5383ea. When I ran the HP system check it says that I need to update the following- that I don't think are related:
Application: InterVideo WinDVD Player -Version: 4.0.11.309Ap1 - whenever I try to install this I am told CRC error: the file c:\program files\common\bin\GPIP489b.rra doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab. file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted. contact your software vendor. and
Driver: AMD Processor Update for WinXP -Version: 1.3.2.0Ep3 - whenever i try to install this I am told that the version of cpu driver currenly installed must be uninstalled before the new version can be loaded. Can find no trace in my add / remove programmes list!!!
I am also told, (and suspect this might be crux of prob - but just don't know that my " HP PCI Information" device has a problem and that "This device is either not present, not working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed.
Make sure the device is connected to your computer correctly. For example, make sure all cables are correctly installed, or that the adapter cards are properly seated in their slots.
If that does not help, try updating the driver for that device from the Device Manager or try to re-detect the hardware.". I have done all of this to noavail. I don't even know what PCI does!! I have just uninstalled it - but now it doesn't appear in device manager list and it isn't showing as connected hardware. I am going to do a system recovery in a moment to make it reappear in the list (still withits pproblem no doubt!!).
Does anyone have any ideas as towhat I can try Am desperate not to have to do complete reinstall as moved house recently and have no idea which box to find the cd's for printer/ broadband/ipod / word etc etc!!
I don't know if it will help, but did a hijack log and set out below.
Am desperate to get this sorted as boyf is overseas at the mo and we talk on skype. We've been having probs recently and me being relegated to sitting on the floor behind the sofa (as far as cable will reach) to talk to him isn't helping matters!! Sorry this is such a long post
