Hp Photosmart 145 problem

I bought my father in law an HP Photosmart 145 photo printer for Xmas and we have been having problem getting to print correctly. It leaves about 3/8" white tab on the back end of the photograph. That is to say, as it prints, it stop about 3/8" short of the end of the paper and it's finished. It is supposed to be borderless 4"x6" and it is...for 3 of the edges. Anyone else have this issue? Is it a driver or firmware issue?
